he holiday spirit was in full swing at the 412 Youth Zone! We kicked off the season with festive decorations representing the various holidays celebrated this time of year, from Hanukkah to Yule, Kwanzaa, and everything in between.

Our high school event, which was the first holiday event of month, consisted of a holiday theme workshop. Here, our high schoolers tapped into their creativity and connected with their peers. A record-breaking 37 high schoolers participated in activities like card crafting, ornament and gift making, DIY ugly sweater designing, homemade candle making, and even an impromptu holiday karaoke session. The event concluded with the youth proudly showcasing their handmade items, and were excited to give them as gifts to family and friends.

A week later, all Youth Zone members and staff gathered for our annual holiday party at the drop-in center. This event was filled with fun activities and fostered great engagement. Highlights included a delicious meal with "Grinch Punch" and a holiday cookie table from our "6 Days of Holiday Cookies" workshops. The evening's activities included games like punch-a-cup, saran wrap ball, pin a nose on Rudolph, ping pong, a gift and ornament making station, and a DJ playing holiday and pop music hits. As an extra treat, both the Grinch and Santa dropped by to spread cheer and take selfies with everyone.

To close out our 2023 programming year, we hosted an epic party at Neville Island Roller Drome, renting out the entire facility for a night of skating, food, and fun. Forty-seven youth from the Zone and Ward Homes participated, with forty-two of them trying out roller skating, many for the first time. The event was a hit, and our young members are eagerly anticipating similar future events.
