On September 24th, members of the 412 Youth Zone enjoyed an exciting afternoon at PNC Park as part of a community outing to watch the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the St. Louis Cardinals. The event was an opportunity for young adults to get out into the community, connect with peers, and experience one of Pittsburgh’s most iconic attractions.
What made this experience especially memorable was the opportunity to enjoy the game from a private suite overlooking the field. The suite provided young people with a unique and comfortable space to relax, connect, and take in the excitement of Major League Baseball from a special vantage point. Throughout the afternoon, participants were able to watch the action from their own dedicated viewing area while enjoying catered food provided in the suite.
The game itself kept everyone on the edge of their seats. The competitive matchup added to the energy of the day and gave participants plenty to cheer about as they followed every inning. The excitement reached its peak in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Pirates came through with the runs they needed to take the lead. One program participant, Nevaughn Page, summed up the excitement perfectly, saying, “It was a close game, I thought the Pirates weren’t going to win!”
One of the highlights of the afternoon came during the famous Pirates Pierogi Race. This race would declare the official winner of the season, with Jalapeño Hannah racing against Potato Pete. It was a close race, but ultimately Potato Pete was declared the winner of the 2026 Great Pierogi Race Champion, winning 19 races overall this season.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement, laughter, and team spirit as youth cheered on the Pirates and spent time together outside of their everyday routines. The event highlighted the importance of community engagement and the value of providing young people with opportunities to connect through shared experiences.
We look forward to many more adventures together!
