The YZ came alive with culture, connection, and celebration as youth and staff gathered to honor Black History Month. The evening began with a shared meal prepared with love by staff, creating an atmosphere of warmth and community. Sitting down together , listening to some jazz allowed youth and staff to connect and celebrate the spirit of community that defines the YZ.

The meal itself reflected the rich traditions of Black culture. Youth enjoyed a menu that included collard greens, yams, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, fried fish, banana pudding, and other foods rooted in cultural tradition. The meal was well received, and many of the youth spoke highly appreciating both the flavors and the thoughtfulness behind it.

Throughout the space, displayed honored influential figures connected to Pittsburgh's Black History. Specifically, the Hill Districts Wylie avenue and Homewood. These communities have played a significant role in shaping the city's cultural legacy. The space also highlighted contemporary leaders, including Summer Lee, providing examples of people the youth would recognize and identify with in today's world.

To bring the celebration even closer to home, the evening also highlighted local creatives, and cultural contributors featured on the 412 Youth Zone "Walk of Fame" including Billy Porter ,Njaimeh Njie, and Rochelle L. Jackson who continue to make meaningful contributions to the city of Pittsburgh.

While visiting the studio space, the youth showed particular interest in learning about the first African American female DJ being from the city of Pittsburgh. This discovery sparked lively conversation and excitement as they learned about the barriers she broke within the music and entertainment industry.

Moments like these helped connect history to the present, allowing the youth to see how individuals from their city have helped shape culture, create opportunities, and inspire future generations.
