In April, we took 18 high school students on a trip to visit two Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and Lincoln University. During the visits, the young people learned more about campus life, academics, and student opportunities while getting a firsthand look at what attending college could be like. The group also had the opportunity to dine on campus, helping them experience another part of college life.
While in Philadelphia, the young people were also able to explore the city, spend time together, and try new experiences outside of their normal routines. Throughout the tours, they asked thoughtful questions and had conversations about their futures and next steps after high school.
Since returning home, we have already heard from a couple of young people who shared that they plan to attend one of the HBCUs we visited. Overall, the trip gave young people the opportunity to step outside of their comfort zones, build new connections, and explore different possibilities for their future.
