Plug In: The 412 Youth Zone Podcast Has Arrived

This podcast was a collaboration effort with staff from the Zone as well as young people who frequent our Drop-in center, or are open for services, and who work closely with their Youth Coaches. In this first season, we dive into 4 episodes that cover an introduction to the Youth Zone, the current housing crisis, mental health services and aging out of the system.
On Episode 1, viewers are introduced to Youth Coach Brie and young adult Xavion, who shares how her passion for advocacy began to flourish through her work with staff at the Youth Zone. We also meet Drop-In Supervisor Fiioh and young adult Alexis, who opens up about navigating critical support systems while facing unstable housing. Alexis returns in Episode 2 alongside Vlad from HSSCY, where they take a deeper look into the housing crisis impacting so many young people today.
For episode 3 we chose to take some time to address the mental health crisis and check in with Youth Coach Cedric and young adult Xaiver, where Xaiver shares how he balances work, school and mental health while he transitions into adulthood. We also check in with one of the Youth Zone’s Therapist Shalace and Program Manager Patrick to talk about different coping skills and the importance of therapy services.
We wrap up the first season of the Youth Zone Podcast with our 4th episode where we talk with Youth Coach Diallo and two of our young adults Hannah and Malaya. Hannah shares about her experiences getting ready to age out of transition age services and Malaya shares about getting ready to age out of CYF services.
We look forward to being able to explore other youth focused topics in future seasons.
