It’s that time again… the first Wednesday of the month which means another What’s Next event! This time, our participants and staff teamed up for an exciting citywide scavenger hunt.
Armed with riddles and clues, each team set out to track down important community resources like PennDOT, the housing authority, and family court. Our six colorful crews, Yellow, Orange, Pink, Green, Black, and Purple, raced against the clock to reach every stop before crossing the finish line at DHS, where we wrapped up with a celebratory meal from Jersey Mike’s.
The first team to arrive was… [drumroll, please] the Black Team! But winning the hunt wasn’t the only takeaway. Along the way, youth discovered just how valuable these resources can be. When asked what the best part was about this scavenger hunt, one participant shared, “Being able to help others find resources in Pittsburgh.” Another participant reflected, “We learned about important places. When we have a problem, we know where to go.”
Comments like these are exactly what we hope for, young people having fun while connecting them with community resources. To the joy of our staff, the scavenger hunt proved that learning about these resources doesn’t have to be boring, it can be an adventure. This What’s Next was a fantastic day of teamwork and a chance to strengthen valuable independent living skills.
