The 412 Youth Zone held our annual shopping event in June at Going, Going, Gone, giving young people the opportunity to shop for up to $200 worth of clothing and shoes. 77 young people participated this year, making it one of our biggest single day shopping events yet!
Throughout the day, there was no shortage of fun, laughter, and confidence boosts. It was incredible to see young people shopping alongside their peers, sharing fashion advice, celebrating great finds, and helping each other make decisions. Calculators were in hand as everyone carefully added up their purchases, stretching every dollar to make the most of this special opportunity.
One of our favorite parts of the event happens the very next day, when young people return to the 412 Youth Zone proudly wearing their new outfits and shoes. While the shopping trip is always exciting, its impact goes far beyond new clothes. For many, it is a chance to refresh their wardrobe and feel more confident. For others, it means finally having clothing and shoes that fit properly and meet their everyday needs. One young person excitedly changed into his new shoes immediately after shopping, sharing that the pair he had been wearing was a size and a half too small. Moments like these serve as a powerful reminder that something as simple as a well-fitting pair of shoes can make a meaningful difference.
The Going, Going, Gone shopping event is about more than just new clothes and shoes, it is about confidence, connection, and feeling supported. It is a chance for young people to celebrate themselves, spend time with friends, and walk away feeling good about what they are wearing. We loved seeing everyone’s personalities shine through their choices, and we are already looking forward to this event next year!
