On July 16th, 2025, the Youth Zone embraced a day of fresh air and headed to Kennywood for what was set to be a fun-filled day of summer adventure. Despite there being rain in the forecast, the trip was far from a washout. Fifty-two young people attended the outing, turning a soggy situation into a day full of laughs, memories, and unexpected silver linings.
Youth Zone participants and staff were greeted with warm sunny weather to start, but the sunshine didn’t last long. When the skies opened up, shelter was taken in one of the park’s pavilions where everyone shared meal of chicken tenders, hot dogs, mac and cheese and fruit salad. During breaks in the rain, our crew continued to dart off to enjoy the few rides that were open, but before too long the park made the decision to close early due to the forecast. Even though this wasn’t the ideal day to spend outside, great company kept the energy high and stopped the rain from dampening spirits.
Best of all, thanks to Kennywood’s rain guarantee, everybody left with a return ticket to come back on a sunnier day. This experience proved that it’s not about the conditions, but about making the most of the moment.
